As the winter months and cooler weather press on, our customers have not been deterred from their journeys to the altar! With an especially large number of wedding band purchases this past month, we've been feeling very lucky to see so many return clients, still happily showing off their Original Diamonds engagement rings. It really is one of the best parts of our job - being able to have this continued contact with our clientele, it makes for a very special relationship.
As a result of this, we've decided to focus on wedding bands in our "pick of the month". Often overlooked as a second cousin to the engagement ring, wedding bands are a very important and sentimental purchase. The wedding band must compliment the engagement ring and add to the beauty of the hand, which is why they are important to keep in mind even at the initial engagement ring design stage. Also, as Debbie likes to mention to her clients, apart from the photos, they are the only single thing you will keep from your wedding day - FOREVER. So, they should not to be slighted or prioritised to the bottom of the wedding budget!
Debbie's pick of the month
1 x 18ct white gold, ladies wedding ring. Set with 4 x (2.2 x 3.2mm) straight baguette cut diamonds and 5 x 2.5mm RBCs (round brilliant cut diamonds) all E/F, VS quality (top parcel). Finger size N½.
This is undoubtedly one of my favourite wedding bands I've designed, to date. As those who follow would know, emerald and baguette cuts are among my favourites. I adore the clean and glassy elegance the fewer facets of these cuts allow. When alternated as they are here, with the flashy sparkle of the brilliant cut stones, I think the effect is quite special.
Emily's pick of the month
This very special wedding band is set with a 0.08ct Argyle natural pink round brilliant cut diamond in 5p colour grade, and fully channel set all around with 20 x 0.08ct round brilliant cut ideal cut diamonds in D/E/F colour and VS clarity, in an 18k white gold 4 mm wide band of the highest quality. Containing a total of over 1.6 carats of diamonds, our customer really decided to spoil herself with this special purchase for her wedding day - after all, the Argyle mine will not be open forever!
0.23 ct Princess cut diamond with a GIA SI1 clarity. An outstanding Australian Pink Diamond with an original Argyle certificate and laser inscription.
In focus: Filigree and Vintage style rings
We are often asked to remodel old rings that are either worn out or the style is simply outdated. This involves either making a completely different style setting using existing diamonds and/or gemstones, or creating a duplicate of the old style made stronger in preferred metal and often with the addition of new diamonds.
The filigree style found on antique rings has experienced a revival in the past decade and we get many requests for this look, with customers bringing us photos of old rings that we are asked to recreate. It's not always easy to recreate a vintage look in a new piece, but we have some rings that we are very proud to call our own...

18k white gold custom designed engagement ring. Set with 1 x 0.60ct, F colour, SI1 clarity Round Brilliant Cut, Triple Excellent, GIA certified diamond.
Up next is a ring that a lovely client of Debbie's brought in, it belonged to the grandmother of his fiancée-to-be, and was very much loved. David (I'm sure he doesn't mind us using his name) was very keen to do what we could to restore or remodel the piece to capture its former glory, so he could propose to his beloved Misty, with it.
As you can tell, the centre stone (an aquamarine) was both chipped and worn, and the rose gold setting, broken and bent. Note the distorted, worn shank and the thinness of the metal - and the claws that have snapped off of the setting.
And so, the redesign process began...
The very same stone was carefully re-cut to remove the chips and restore it to its original lustre. The setting was redesigned in the same style with 18k white gold (our client's preferred metal type), with a slightly heavier version of the original design. The setting now holds the stone securely and is far more robust.
The ring is now perfectly remade and ready to be worn for another generation! Which, by the way, is very fitting - as the happy couple have now been married for over a year and are expecting their first child in the next few weeks. Here's hoping it's a little girl who will love her mother's ring as much as we do!
If you are interested in finding out about options for either remodelling a treasured piece of your own, or creating a new design of a vintage classic, please email us or make an appointment so we can help bring these ideas to life. It's what we do, and love.
